The body of this young porpoise was washed up on Burnham-On-Sea’s beach over the weekend.
The town’s lifeboat crew made the gruesome discovery on the sand to the south of Burnham’s jetty at 9.30am on Sunday (July 8th) as they launched on training.
An eyewitness told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The animal measured about 30 inches long and had probably been separated from its family during the recent storms.”
The body was taken away by Sedgemoor District Council’s beach cleaners. Burnham-On-Sea.com reported earlier this year how a porpoise had been spotted swimming in the River Parrett estuary near Burnham’s Sailing Club.
