Work to demolish a familiar landmark in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea continued on Thursday (July 26th) and the well-known round tower at the site will soon fall too.
Tuckers Garage in Victoria Street is being razed to the ground to make way for a development of new flats.
Hopes that the familiar art deco tower would be saved appear to be fruitless – although the structure was still in place on Thursday evening.
Deputy Mayor Neville Jones told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Sadly, the tower cannot be saved. The building was not listed in the Conservation Area earlier this year, although I understand the preliminary plans for this site do show a new tower will be incorporated into the building when it is constructed.”
The site, which is owned by Property Link, is at the centre of ambitious plans to create a brand new, multi-million pound Cultural Quarter in Burnham as part of the town’s regeneration.
