New shops set to open in Burnham-On-Sea town centre

Several new shops are set to open in Burnham-On-Sea town centre over the next few weeks in time for the busy summer season.

A new fruit and vegetable shop will launch in place of the former Brooks & Son off-licence in College Street, a welcome addition to the town centre since the closure of the last greengrocer five years ago.

A new Turkish restaurant is also planning to open in place of the former Inn Plaice fish and chip shop in Cross Street.

A new e-cigarette shop is also scheduled to open soon in place of the With Love gift shop in the High Street.

And Burnham’s Rotary Club is also set to open its temporary summer bookshop in the former Tenovus charity shop in the High Street.

Burnham’s town centre has a 5.58% vacancy rate on ground floor premises, while the regional south west vacancy rate is currently 7.4%.

Town Centre Manager Bev Milner Simonds said: “It is welcome news for all to see the confidence I hear from many traders transferring into properties being let and occupied.”

71% of all business in Burnham’s town centre are independents, while 47% of all businesses are retail.
