Hundreds of people celebrated the Royal Wedding in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday (April 30th) at a fundraising event organised by the town’s Mayor and the Victoria Hotel.
The Mayor’s Right Royal Wedding Do included a day-long programme of live music, entertainment and fun in aid of BARB and the Friends of Burnham Hospital.
During the event, The Ginger Hitlas gave their first performance of their new charity single, Hey Little Lady, to positive acclaim and cheers.
Members of St Andrew’s Church Choir performed a 30-minute programme of stirring, patriotic songs to celebrate the Royal wedding.
Jason Eke, pictured below, also raised £600 for the two charities by having his head shaved during the afternoon. The Mayoress, Maria Clarke, started off the shaving!
A line-up of entertainment was also laid on with a fancy dress competition, pig roast, stalls, face painting, drum playing and a visit by BARB’s Light Of Elizabeth hovercraft.
Andy Brewer and his family also displayed a collection of historical pedal bikes at the event – among which was a penny farthing that attracted plenty of attention.
Mayor Michael Clarke told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’ve had a fantastic day and thank everyone who attended or supported the event. A lot of fun has been had celebrating the Royal Wedding while raising funds for two excellent local causes.”
And Martin Lloyd, landlord of the Victoria Hotel, added: “Dee and I send a big thank you to everyone who’s supported the event. It was so well and we thank all who attended plus the Mayor and Mayoress, Keedwells, GC Music, Dave Skinner, BARB, and all the stallholders and acts for their superb support.”
Mark Newman, Chairman of BARB, which was one of two charities benefiting from the event, said: “We are very grateful to Martin and Dee at the Victoria and Michael and Maria for organising such a fun event. Our thanks go to everyone who attended for their support.”
