Campaigners fighting plans for a wind farm near Burnham-On-Sea are calling on local people to get involved ahead of an appeal against its refusal.
Wind farm protest group NoPilrow is urging residents to attend the appeal over plans to build four 130-metre tall wind turbines on land between Rooksbridge and Mark.
The appeal against the wind farm’s refusal, by energy firm Broadview Energy, will be heard at The Princess Theatre and Arts Centre in Burnham on January 7th and could last up to eight days.
Broadview says the wind farm could power 7,560 homes and the scheme, which will see the company donate £2,500 per megawatt of capacity, could generate up to £750,000 for community projects over its 25-year lifetime.
A Planning Inspector will consider evidence including written documents and witnesses, before sending a report to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles for a final decision.
A spokesman from the No Pilrow campaigning group said this week: “Many individuals have previously objected to this wind farm through the Sedgemoor planning website and while all these are likely to be taken into account by the planning inspector, there are other things we are asking residents to do in support.”
“These include coming to some or all of the days of the appeal to demonstrate an interest in the issues surrounding the proposed development, enhancing your written objection by speaking at the appeal or asking the inspector to view the site of the proposed development from your house, garden or land.”
