£8,000 raised for charity at Burnham-On-Sea Rotary Club book shop

-

Burnham-On-Sea Rotary Club’s charity bookshop has raised over £8,000 for good causes.

The shop, situated in the former Threshers’ wine shop in College Street, is open each week from Wednesday to Saturday between 10am and 4pm.

It opened at the start of August last year and remained open until Christmas, with further opening sessions during the half-term and Easter school holidays.

“The unprecedented opportunity given to the Rotary Club, for which thanks are extended to both Threshers and the selling agents, Abbott & Frost, has enabled the Club to raise over £8,000,” Rotary spokesman George Moon told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Among the beneficiaries so far have been the Rotary Shelterbox Trust, providing relief after the Pakistani, Haitian and Japanese earthquakes and tsunamis, Thanks for Life, which has almost completed the worldwide eradication of polio, and more recently the Highbridge Festival of the Arts, which needs funds to support the continuation of this worthwhile local annual event.”

Donations of good, clean books are still welcomed at the shop during opening hours or they can be collected locally by arrangement.

Potential donors should contact Rotarian Carol Chalmers on 07887 931354 or Rotarian Tony Russell on 01823 274971.
