Busy agenda for Burnham-On-Sea Chamber Of Trade meeting

-

The Severn Barrage, policing and the future of Town Centre Management will be among the topics at Burnham-On-Sea Chamber Of Trade’s next general meeting, to be held on January 17th.

From 6pm the meeting will be open to all businesses in the town to hear about plans for the 2008 edition of the shoppers’ guide, the future of town centre management following Sedgemoor District Council’s recent abolition of the post of Town Centre Manager, and Burnham police’s Sgt Ian Kennett will address the meeting about automatic number plate recognition cameras.

From 6.30pm, the meeting will be open to the public to hear the main business of the evening, which as first reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com last week, will be a debate on the benefits of a Severn Barrage.

Gareth Woodham, founder of the Severn Lake project, will speak in favour of a barrage being sited at Brean Down whilst Patrick Stokes, Chairman of the Somerset Sea Flood Study Group, will speak about the flood risks which a barrage could pose to Burnham.

Chairman Alex Turco said: “A Severn Barrage could dramatically affect both businesses and residents of Burnham. Therefore, we welcome anyone interested in learning more about the proposals and what they could mean for the town.”
