Controversial plans to convert and expand Highbridge’s Post Office building into seven flats have been given a ‘thumbs down’ by town councillors.
The owner of the property in Church Street, pictured, has applied for a change of use, conversion and extension of the post office, shop, storage and first floor flat to a ground floor shop and post office and seven flats.
However, members of the Town Council’s planning applications committe have objected against the plans, saying they represent ‘over-development’.
A council spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We considered that the proposed conversion of the Post Office building constituted over-development of the site at a density that would be unacceptable. The ground floor with three one-bedroom flats would be particularly cramped and inappropriate.”
A final decision on the scheme rests with Sedgemoor District Council.
