Exclusive: New Burnham £1.8million health club gets go-ahead

-

Exciting plans for a new £1.8million health club and swimming pool on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea have been given the go-ahead by the district council this week.

Last month, Burnham-On-Sea.com exclusively unveiled plans by Home Farm Holiday Park to construct the two-storey property on land at its site just off Stoddens Lane.

Park owner Steve Atkinson told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Friday that he was “delighted” that the project, which will generate between 8-10 new jobs, had been given the green light by Sedegmoor planners.

“I’m delighted by the decision and will be meeting the developers over the next few days to set out the schedule for building the complex.”

“The plans are now all agreed, so the discussions about building can proceed.”

The complex will include a 13m x 15m swimming pool incorporating a 7m x 7m water fun pool, a sauna, steam room and reception area, while upstars there will be a large fitness suite with running machines and gym equipment.

He added that the complex would not be reserved exclusively for holidaymakers at the park, and would be open to local residents.

The complex is likely to take around nine months to construct and Home Farm hopes it will open during early 2009.

“We’ve been planning this for over two years and are itching to get it going, particularly in light of the possible closure of Burnham’s swimming pool,” said Mr Atkinson, who added that while the proposed pool will be smaller than Burnham’s existing facility in Berrow Road, he hopes it could be used for classes, water aerobics sessions and families.
