Burnham-On-Sea residents took to the airwaves to campaign for the future of the town’s swimming pool on Tuesday morning (January 15th).
Residents were invited to join in a live radio debate about the future of the threatened pool when BBC Somerset’s Radio Bus visited the town 24 hours before Sedgemoor District Council is due to decide the pool’s fate.
Margaret Smith from Burnham Disabled Swimming Club explained that the pool is “a lifeline” for her members and added that the Berrow Road facility has helped her walk again.
Reverend Graham Witts of St Andrew’s Church explained how he’s got his congregation praying for its future.
And in a fiery debate, Tom Ashton, Chairman of the Save Our Swimming Pool campaign group, put his questions about the finances of the pool directly to Sedgemoor District Council’s Ann Bown.
The BBC Bus was parked outside the pool throughout Tuesday morning.
