A family whose home in Burnham-On-Sea was destroyed by a major fire has said they are “incredibly humbled” by the huge outpouring of support from local residents and businesses.
The home in Highbridge Road, near to Burnham-on-Sea Police Station, was completely gutted during a blaze last Wednesday (July 27th) when the flames spread quickly through the property.
Over £4,000 has been raised by generous donations online here to help the family, who have been left homeless.
Rosie Clements, her husband Paul, and their three children, Lily-Rose, Shae and Ruby, lost their home, pet dog and pet bearded dragon in the fire.
Rosie, a teacher at Churchfield School in Highbridge, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It has been a very difficult few days, primarily as we lost all of our pets and secondly as we will be homeless for the foreseeable future until we can rebuild our home.”
“The saving grace has been the reaction from our local community.”
“So many people have rallied round and supported us emotionally, financially and practically.”
“Large organisations such as Haven, Tesco and Asda, as well as several small local businesses, have offered immediate and future support.”
“So many local individuals have given up their time and energy to support us. It is incredibly humbling and enables us to see light at the end of the tunnel.”
“The fire service and the two people who were first on the scene – one of whom was hospitalised – battled to save our home for which we are extremely grateful.”
She added: “My children have been amazing, resilient and positive which makes me immensely proud.”
The fire service has said that the exact cause of the accidental blaze will probably not be known due to its intensity.
