Burnham-On-Sea’s MP has met bosses at Sedgemoor District Council to help the campaign to save the town’s closure-threatened swimming pool.
David Heathcoat-Amory met Council Leader Duncan McGinty and Chief Executive Kerry Rickards to discuss the very tight financial settlement which the council faces and the serious effects to local facilities such as Burnham Swimming Pool.
Commenting after the meeting, Mr Heathcoat-Amory told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I impressed on them the importance of saving the pool. I was pleased to hear that a work group has been set up to actively consider private sector operatives.”
“The council confirmed the tight financial settlement of the County Council and the obligation imposed on them by the Government regarding free bus passes.”
“It is very important that a solution be found to preserve this important facility for the swimmers of Burnham and Highbridge.”
The comments come just days after Burnham-On-Sea.com reported how a series of public meetings has been set up to keep the public updated on progress to save the pool.
The dates of the meetings are 7th February, 6th March, 3rd April, 8th May and 22nd May. These meetings will be held from 6-7pm in Burnham Community Centre, Berrow Road.
