Fire crews seal off Burnham courtyard as gales send masonry falling

-

A courtyard in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea has been closed off by fire crews due to falling masonry.

High winds and heavy rain caused several chunks of concrete to fall from a chimney above a property in Victoria Street, as pictured.

Fire crews from Burnham, who were called to investigate, have sealed off the courtyard as a safety precaution.

“It would be dangerous for pedestrians to walk under this crumbling masonry during the current series of storms until repairs are made,” a Burnham fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Therefore, we have sealed off the area underneath until repairs are made to keep the public safe.”
