Local Lib Dems give their support to Burnham pool campaigners

-

Campaigners battling to save Burnham-On-Sea swimming pool from possible closure have been given the support of the town’s Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate this week.

Tessa Munt (pictured below) met Tom Ashton, Chairman of the Save Our Swimming pool campaign group, on Thursday (January 31st) to discuss the threatened closure of the pool.

Mr Ashton told Burnham-On-Sea.com after the two-hour meeting: “It was a very positive session, in which Tessa and the Liberal Democrats gave us their full support.”

“Tessa was adamant that the closure should not go ahead and told me she would also support a community-funded bid to run the pool if another company cannot be found to take it on in time for the May deadline.”

Last month, Sedgemoor District Council deferred its final decision on whether to close the pool until May 31st to give a task group more time to find new owners for the facility.

Burnham’s MP, David Heathcoat-Amory, has also been very vocal in his support of those campaigning against the closure.

Mr Ashton added: “I’m very pleased that we have got strong cross-party support.”
