A Burnham-On-Sea theatre has this week been given a new name as a major programme of improvements is kicked off.
‘The Princess Theatre and Arts Centre’ is the new name for the facilities, which were previously called The Princess Hall.
Members of the committee who are overseeing the building on behalf of the Town Council, which took control of it earlier this year, met on Wednesday (June 1st) to finalise a programme of improvements to the property.
The committee’s chairman, Cllr Peter Burridge-Clayton, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A large number of improvements has been agreed this week and are being put into priority order.”
“The work includes modernising the bar and kitchen, carrying out external decorations and making some structural changes to the roof. We also want to introduce a new illuminated sign outside to draw more attention to the building at night.”
“The work will run into several thousand pounds. It will be partly funded from the £90,000 that Sedgemoor District Council allocated to the improvements when we took over earlier in the year.”
He added that the new name has been unanimously backed by members of the committee, explaining: “The new name puts more emphasis on the events that will be held here – especially theatre and arts performances – rather than the old name of The Princess Hall.”
