Two men have appeared in court this week charged with criminal damage following £10,000 of vandalism in Burnham-On-Sea’s Marine Cove gardens last October.
A 20-year-old man from Highbridge and a 19-year-old man from Burnham-On-Sea have been charged with criminal damage following the incident on October 28th.
They appeared at Taunton Crown Court this week and the case was adjourned to April 7th for a pre-case management hearing.
During the incident – which occurred at around 1am on October 28th – two light columns were toppled, two timber benches were ripped from their ground fixings and thrown into the pool, and the centrepiece cherub in the pool was also damaged.
The sundial was also pushed over and the dial removed from its plinth while a heritage lantern was shattered on its standing light column, and two tiers of stone paving were torn from the steps leading to the lion’s fountain.
Sedgemoor District Council, which oversees the gardens, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We have been working hard to try and ensure the gardens are soon back in top condition for residents and visitors to enjoy.”
The council has been working with four contractors to get the damage repaired.
