Staff at Highbridge’s King Alfred Sports Centre are celebrating this week after winning several top awards.
The facilities won the coveted Centre of the Year Award at the annual Somerset Leisure Trust Awards.
The Highbridge centre’s manager, Toni McKinlay, was also honoured for a second year as Employee of the Year For Operations.
The centre is run by Somerset Leisure Trust, one of the largest providers of leisure services in Somerset with 13 centres.
More than 100 employees attended the awards ceremony, which was held at the Somerset County Cricket Ground in Taunton.
The centre was also singled out for its successful financial performance and the ‘can do’ attitude of its staff.
The Chief Executive of Somerset Leisure Trust, Tim Nightingale, says that the awards highlight the extensive talents of the workforce.
“Once again during the past 12 months Somerset Leisure staff have shown tremendous tenacity and initiative in helping the trust to achieve ongoing success in what are difficult economic times for all businesses,” he said.
“Despite the recession we have continued to train and invest in our workforce who are able to deliver a first class leisure service to communities in Somerset. These awards are well deserved and are a fitting tribute to our enthusiastic and hard working team.”
The awards were split into 14 categories which recognised the achievements of staff during the past 12 months, including customer excellence and innovation, community engagement and developing best practice.
