Burnham-On-Sea businesses are this week being asked for their opinions on controversial plans to pedestrianise the town centre.
Hundreds of survey forms have been sent to firms in the centre of the town to assess their feelings about restricting traffic along the High Street (pictured) at certain times of the day.
Burnham-On-Sea.com understands that the regeneration team is considering removing commercial traffic from the High Street between 10am and 4pm.
Alex Turco, Chairman of the Chamber of Trade told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Wednesday (February 13th): “At the last public presentation of the regeneration plans in December, it was proposed that the High Street from College Street to Abingdon Street could become subject to restricted loading times,” explained
“The Chamber was not satisfied that there was sufficient evidence that such a proposal would be workable for affected businesses.”
“Therefore, the Chamber requested that a questionnaire about loading needs for Town Centre businesses should be circulated. This should enable the designers to have sufficient data to present proposals that will work.”
“The survey has been distributed over the last week to all businesses in the town centre.”
The closing date for completed survey forms is the end of February and the feedback will then be incorporated into Burnham’s final regeneration plans, which are due to be exhibited for public consultation next month.
