Burnham-On-Sea firms named as finalists in Food and Drink Awards

Several Burnham-On-Sea businesses and groups are celebrating being named as finalists for the 2016 Somerset Life Food and Drink Awards.

The Mitre in College Street and The Chandni Indian restuarant in Burnham High Street have been short-listed for the award for Best International Restaurant of the Year.

Mike Mckenzie from The White Horse Inn in Mark has been named as one of the finalists in the running for the Best Chef of the Year award, and the Best Somerset Sunday Roast title.

The Burnham-On-Sea Food & Drink Festival has been named as one of the three finalists for the title of Best Food Event of the Year.

A spokesperson said: “The Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards are designed to champion, highlight and offer a showcase to the good and the great from the region’s food and drink industry. It includes local producers and suppliers, small farming businesses, chefs, restaurants, pubs and hoteliers, and people who care about the countryside and the future of our local environment.”

Burnham Food and Drink Festival co-organiser Bev Milner Simonds said: “It is great to see four businesses local to Burnham-On-Sea featured in the finalists list in four categories.”

“The Mitre is at the heart of the festival area on College Street. We think the festival is up against stiff competition from Taunton Farmers’ Market and Exmoor Food Festival. Thank you to those that nominated the festival.”
