Detailed design for Burnham-On-Sea regeneration project is approved

-

Multi-million pound plans to regenerate the centre of Burnham-On-Sea took another step forward on Wednesday (February 20th) when the district council approved the detailed design for the Civic Pride project.

Sedgemoor’s Executive Committee approved the designs for the scheme, which aims to enhance the town centre for the benefit of businesses, residents and visitors.

The designs will now go out for public consultation and an exhibition will be held at Burnham-On-Sea Library in Princess Street during March.

The designs will be on show on Thursday 6th March from 10am to 5.30pm, Friday 7th March from 9.30am to 7.30pm and Saturday 8th March from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

The project’s architect will also be available at the exhibition to discuss details from 12.00 noon to 7.00pm on Friday 7th March.

Burnham-On-Sea Civic Pride is a partnership of Burnham and Highbridge Regeneration Partnership, Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, Burnham Chamber of Trade and Commerce, Sedgemoor District Council, the South West Regional Development Agency and Somerset County Council.

As reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com in 2006, the South West Regional Development Agency has given up to £350,000 towards the £430,000 price of financing and designing the changes, with county and district councils expected to make up the rest.

Alex Turco, Chairman of Burnham’s Chamber Of Trade, welcomed the news on Wednesday, and told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Chamber has worked closely with the design team from AEDAS over the last six months to help them understand the town, its businesses and its hopes for the future. It will be interesting to see whether the town’s residents and business community feel the future of the town is best served by these proposals when they go on show in March.”
