Mean vandals go on rampage at Burnham-On-Sea childrens centre

-

Mean-spirited vandals caused widespread damage during an attack on a Burnham-On-Sea children’s centre over the weekend.

The thugs set fires, broke toys and left smashed beer bottles and empty alcohol boxes in the Octopus Centre’s play area in Winchester Road.

Distraught staff at the centre made the grim discovery early this morning (Monday, June 20th) and alerted Burnham police.

Angry Octopus Daycare Manager Julie Bennett told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a scene of total carnage when we came in first thing – such a senseless act of vandalism.”

“Toys and playing equipment were smashed and ruined, and large amounts of broken glass and beer bottles were strewn over the garden area.”

“The children’s planters, which are being using to grow vegetables, were broken and gardening tools were snapped and storage containers left damaged.”

She added: “A small fire was even set deliberately on one of the table tops, damaging the surface.”

“Even some lovely plants which were recently bought by the parents have been torn up and destroyed.”

“I hope we can claim for the damage off our insurance, but at the moment we are so disappointed that something like this can happen – it’s very disheartening. There’s no reason for it at all.”

Officers at Burnham-On-Sea Police have appealed for any witnesses to contact the station on 0845 456 7000 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
