New safety concerns have prompted the closure of Burnham-On-Sea’s jetty for pedestrians this week.
A section of concrete was washed away from the walkway during the recent stormy weather, as pictured below.
Sedgemoor District Council, which oversees the jetty, says it has temporarily closed it to pedestrians “as a safety precaution”.
Warning signs have been installed at the top of the structure, with one stating “no pedestrian access due to damaged / missing concrete”.
A Sedgemoor spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the damage is currently being assessed and repairs are due shortly. The jetty remains open for emergency access.
