Highbridge railway station re-opened on Monday morning (March 3rd) after a weekend of severe disruption caused by major track replacement work.
A large section of rails running through Highbridge Railway Station was removed, as pictured here, before being replaced as part of a major modernisation programme.
The work began on Friday and lasted round-the-clock until 5am on Monday (March 3rd).
Some rail users were angry that there appeared to have been little advance notification about the work and that they had to take alternative bus services to continue their journeys.
Network Rail’s website gave no details about the work on Sunday and even staff operating the National Rail Enquiries telephone line were in the dark when Burnham-On-Sea.com rang the line on Sunday afternoon.
