Residents in the Burnham-On-Sea area have been warned of the potential for flooding today (Sunday, January 26th) as further heavy rainfall is predicted.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning as torrential rain and gales are expected.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Another Atlantic frontal system is forecast to cross the UK during Sunday. Rainfall accumulations of over 20 mm are expected in many western parts.”
“Strong winds are also expected. Gales are likely, especially along exposed coasts, with gusts of 50-60 mph.”
The Enviroment Agency has issued a medium flood risk warning in Somerset, with all attention focussed on the flood-hit levels.
Somerset County Council has declared a major incident in response to ongoing flooding problems.
Following their declaration, the Local Resilience Forum’s Strategic Co-ordination Group (SCG) has met to ensure there is a co-ordinated multi-agency response to the ongoing flooding issues affecting communities in Somerset.
More than 43 sq miles (27,000 acres) of productive farmland has been flooded across the county.
