Highbridge’s Asda store unveils plans for store expansion and revamp

-

Highbridge’s Asda supermarket has this week unveiled major plans to extend its store.

The supermarket giant says it wants to refurbish its entire Caxton Road store, adding a brand new mezzanine floor for a cafe, along with other alterations that include a revamp of its car park.

Several public consultation sessions are to be held during coming weeks when shoppers and local residents will be able to hear more about the proposals.

“The improvements, if agreed, would allow the store to operate more efficiently, with wider aisles and more checkouts. We would also be able to increase the range of non-food goods, such as our George clothing range, providing more choice,” Asda’s Estates Town Planning Manager Alan Jones told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Before submitting its planning application to Sedgemoor District Council, Asda says it is keen to hear local feedback.

It has announced two public consultation sessions that will be held at the store on Tuesday February 11th from 10am-7pm and on Saturday February 15th from 9am-1pm.

“The views of our local community matter so we hope lots of people will come along, meet members of our team, and give us their feedback,” added Mr Jones. “We’d like to provide more choice and a wider range of goods so that we can continue to provide for our customers’ needs.”

The latest development comes just months after the Highbridge store’s plans for a new petrol station were approved, as first reported here.
