Burnham-On-Sea youth centre’s roof gets £5,000 of vital repairs

-

A £5,000 project to repair the aging roof of Burnham-On-Sea’s youth centre has been completed this month.

Burnham and Highbridge Town Council gave a grant of £2,500 towards the project at the BAY Centre in Cassis Close, along with £1,500 from Sedgemoor District Council.

Contractors from local firm Kiwi Flat Roofing have now completed work on the centre’s upper roof in Casssis Close, which had been showing signs of deterioration.

BAY Centre Chairman Mike Lang told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We also received an anonymous donation and carried out some minor fundraising ourselves.”

“Our committee have many large and small projects in mind, including a plan to replace our old lighting with modern LED units, for which we have a outstanding grant application.”

“We operate the BAY Centre as a community resource, and our operating costs are met by rent from the various groups using the building.”

Situated in Cassis Close, Burnham, the centre was originally built as The BAY Club, in 1966 by the Somerset County Youth Service. Back in May, it celebrated its 50th anniversary.
