The group of seven town and county councillors, pictured here, has been formed to save the Market Street library from closure.
The group comprises county councillors Peter Burridge-Clayton and John Woodman in advisory roles, with town councillors Helen Groves, Pat Burge, Alan Miller, Paul Young and Martin Cox.
Following the recent confirmation from Somerset County Council that funding for the library will be withdrawn from 1st October, the Town Council has been negotiating a deal with County Hall to ensure a library service is maintained in Highbridge – and the new group will be taking these crucial talks forward.
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last month that dozens of volunteers had come forward to offer their help in running the library after we published an appeal for helpers. Town Clerk Eileen Shaw said 27 people have given their support.
It emerged on Monday evening that a ‘Plan B’ is also being investigated so that if a judicial review into library closures across Somerset fails, a second route can be progressed.
