Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront illuminations will be switched on for the tourist season at the beginning of May.
Town councillors had considered switching them on in time for Easter but with it falling early this year, the council has delayed the event.
As clocks change on March 30th, the council would have had to pay to get the electronic timers on each of the 42 sets of lights changed twice.
A town council spokeswoman explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “In order to reduce electricity costs and the costs of altering the time clocks as daylight hours grow longer, it was agreed that the lights would not be re-energised until the first May Bank Holiday weekend.”
The illuminations will be lit from 8.30pm-11.30pm from May until the first week in January 2009.
The council is relieved that the lights had managed to escape damage during last week’s powerful storms.
