‘Best-ever’ Highbridge Festival of The Arts comes to a close

-

The 61st annual Highbridge Festival of The Arts came to a colourful end on Saturday night (March 15th) when this year’s closing concert was held in front of a capacity audience in Burnham’s Princess Hall.

The festival has attracted over 1,700 entrants this year and Chairman Anne Bannister said it had been “a record year – one of the very best”.

She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The standard of entries was very high indeed, with more gold certificates this year than in any previous year.”

Show Secretary Maureen Phillips agreed: “We’ve seen the best-ever standard. Sixteen honours were for marks over 90, which is quite extraordinary.”

Saturday’s sell-out concert included 37 performances from the key music, drama and dance winners from the last few weeks – including East Brent Primary School Choir (pictured right).

Our photo shows (top) winners Kayla Hilhorst, Stephanie Lavington, Bethany Baker, Lucy Byrne, Hannah Gunningham, Ruby O’Mahony, Florence Wadley and Jessica Boulter; and (below) East Brent School’s Choir.
