Residents in Burnham-On-Sea have this week welcomed the decision by a town centre shop to introduce new facilities to top-up electricity and gas payment keys.
The Toy Cupboard in Pier Street, opposite Morrisons, has introduced a PayPoint machine following a campaign by residents calling for more of the facilities.
The issue was first highlighted by Burnham-On-Sea.com in February here after frustrated residents said the town had only one outlet, the Post Office, to re-charge the widely-used utility keys.
Burnham town councillor Tom Nicholls, who was among the residents campaigning for more of the machines, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I use a key meter for my own electricity supply. Previously, my only option for charging this has been at the Post Office, whose opening hours are very similar to normal office hours. As The Toy Cupboard has longer opening hours, this will make it easier for those who work office hours to charge their electricity keys.”
“It also provides a second option for customers should the machine fail at the Post office, which has happened in the past. This is good news for many residents in Burnham-On-Sea.”
The Toy Cupboard’s Brenda Wilkinson, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Several people asked whether we might consider install a PayPoint machine due to the lack of such facilities. Since introducing it we’ve had lots of positive feedback.”
