Plans for seven new flats in Highbridge rejected by district council

-

Controversial plans to convert and expand Highbridge’s Post Office building into seven flats have been given a ‘thumbs down’ by the district council this week.

The owner of 9 Church Street, pictured, applied for a change of use, conversion and extension of the post office, shop, storage and a flat into a new ground floor shop and post office and seven flats.

But when the plans were considered on Tuesday (July 19th) by Sedgemoor’s Development Control Committee, councillors rejected the application.

“The plans have been turned down because members felt the proposals would have led to an overdevelopment of the site. The building would also have lacked amenities and recycling facilities,” a council spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Members of the Town Council’s planning applications committee also objected against the plans earlier this year, also saying they represent ‘over-development’.
