More than 200 concerned residents filled a village hall near Burnham-On-Sea to air their concerns about plans for a controversial new wind farm.
There was standing room only in East Brent Village Hall as residents flocked to take part in the debate regarding the proposed six 140-metre tall wind turbines at a site called Pilrow Farm 1km south of Rooksbridge.
Members of the ‘No Pilrow’ protest group and residents swapped a number of heated exchanges with the developer, Broadview Energy, during the two-hour public meeting, which is pictured here.
A number of concerns regarding the visual, environmental and financial impact were raised while Broadview’s team of three (pictured above) – who were the only people in the hall to speak in favour of the plans – did their best to defend it.
Nick Woolmington, Chairman of the No Pilrow group, told Burnham-On-Sea.com afterwards: “This meeting has been very successful in showing Broadview the strength of local feeling against the plans. Our momentum against the proposals is really starting to grow.”
But Tom Cosgrove, project manager at Broadview, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We found the meeting very useful in speaking directly to the residents and getting our point-of-view across. These are very early days for the project.”
