£300,000 expansion of Burnham-On-Sea school edges closer

-

Burnham Infants School could soon benefit from a £300,000 expansion, creating around 30 extra places for pupils.

Somerset County Council has agreed with Sedgemoor District Council to lease an area of the nearby recreation land at Winchester Road to build a new classroom, toilets and a cloakroom by September 2012 – providing that planning consent is granted.

John Osman, the County Council’s children and young people stakeholder, has agreed that the land should be leased from the district council with an annual rent of £2,500 per year.

A budget of £300,000 has been earmarked for the proposals as part of the council’s capital programme and around £10,000 will also be spent on improvement work, including a new path, plus children’s playing equipment slide and trees. A period of consultation on the proposals is due to be launched shortly.
