A group of fundraisers near Burnham-On-Sea has raised hundreds of pounds for Somerset flood victims by holding a special event.
A ‘Stay and Play’ event was held in Lympsham on Friday where a range of fun-filled activities for families raised £185 for the Somerset flood appeal.
Lympsham Sports Pavilion also sold raffle tickets over the weekend, boosting the amount still further.
The Stay and Play event was organised by Sarah Saxon, Laura Wall, Vicki Paget and Julia Rosser and was well attended, pictured here.
“We would like to say a special thank you to the parents of Lympsham First School who made cakes and supported the event. We were all saddened by the devastation caused by the flooding on the Somerset Levels and wanted to help those families affected,” Sarah told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“My daughter, Rosie, a pupil at Hugh Sexeys Middle School, is also doing her community badge with Brent Knoll Guides and is making over 30 ‘Thinking of you’ cards with a theme of Spring flowers.”
“Some of these were made by the children at the Stay and Play event and, once finished, they will be posted to the church warden in Muchelney for those people affected by the flooding.”
The group has also been busy collecting clothing and textiles from the local community with bedding, towels and waterproof clothing etc. Laura Wall took over 35 bin bags of donations to the collection point in Bridgwater last week.
