Nominations are being sought for a brand new project celebrating Burnham’s history and heritage.
As reported here, North Sedgemoor Local History Group (NSLHG) was recently granted £25,200 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for its ‘Capture Burnham’ project to develop a heritage trail and online archive.
Now the group is asking people to register and nominate a topic, place or person for inclusion in the project.
John Strickland, the group’s chairman, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Capture Burnham aims to create an online archive for the future, recording aspects of Burnham’s past. You can help shape what is included by nominating an object, a memory or place for consideration.”
“Some of the nominations received so far are The Pavilion, sliding steps off Sea View Road, The High and Low Lighthouses, St Andrew’s Church, Manor House and Gardens and the Nun’s Cemetery.”
Readers can make nominations via the website here or by filling in a postcard available from across Burnham including The Tourist Information Centre, Library, Community Centre, Princess Hall, Hurley’s Toy Shop, The Clarence, Victoria and Dunstan Hotel.
The deadline for nominations is March 8th and the next public meeting to discuss the project will be on May 29th at The Princess Theatre. The group is also developing a history trail, which is set to feature 30 locations.
