Pilrow protest group’s hopes boosted by Secretary of State’s verdict

-

Campaigners fighting controversial plans for the Pilrow wind farm near Burnham-On-Sea say their hopes of success have been boosted by the Secretary of State’s decision to reject a similar scheme at nearby West Huntspill.

We first reported here last month that Secretary of State Eric Pickles had thrown out the plans by green energy firm Ecotricity to build four wind turbines at West Huntspill.

Separately, Broadview Energy wants to build four 130-metre tall wind turbines on land between Rooksbridge and Mark.

David James, a spokesman for the campaign group No Pilow, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “NoPilrow considers this to be the correct decision and it reinforces the case against Broadview’s proposed Pilrow Wind Farm.”

“NoPilrow has always argued that the erection of four 130 metre turbines in flat terrain, less than 2Km from the summit of Brent Knoll, would have an extremely adverse impact upon the landscape.”

“Although NoPilrow and the residents of East Brent and Rooksbridge and the adjoining parishes will understandably be bolstered by this decision, it must be remembered that all decisions are made on an individual basis. There is still a long road to travel before the Pilrow decision is announced; we are fortified but not jubilant.”

The Planning Inspectorate held a planning appeal on the scheme in January and a decision is expected soon.
