Burnham-On-Sea baker’s winning pie goes into commercial production

-

The winner of a Burnham-On-Sea competition to create a new pie flavour is set to have her tasty entry put into commercial production.

Cathy Bird’s Moroccan lamb pie impressed the taste buds of the judges at the Great Burnham Bake-Off, which was held during Saturday’s Burnham Food and Drink Festival.

Cathy will not only see her pie go into production at The Humble Pie Company, but will also receive six pies in the post from the firm.

“I’m really chuffed to have won and to get the recognition. This pie is really delicious – it’s sweet and full of flavour,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Pauline Boyer from The Humble Pie Company added: “It’s a very tasty recipe and the pie really is especially delicious when hot. It fills a gap in the marketplace.”

The Bake-Off, sponsored by The Retreat Caravan Park, saw bakers of all ages taking part in two competitions – one for the best pie and the second for the best family favourite recipes.

The young baker champion was named as Taylor Tasker, while the Champion Family award went to Mary and Georgina, and the Individual Champion was Phil Harvey. Isabelle Williams got a merrit for the taste of her bake, while Mimi Woodliffe got a merrit for her bake’s creativity.

Sponsor Debbie March told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The bakers excelled themselves and there were some superb entries that gave the judges a difficult job of selecting the winners.”

The judges were Dusica Roberts, Rosemary Jackson and Pauline Boyer.
