Residents living near Highbridge’s Walrow railway bridge want new weight restrictions introduced in order to prevent lorries and heavy goods vehicles thundering past their homes.
Councillor Chris Williams – who became an independent councillor this week – says he has been approached by residents living in nearby Walrow Terrace who are worried that when the bridge is re-opened they will be faced with non-stop noise.
“The road is entirely unsuitable for large vehicles and I share residents’ concerns about 44 tonne lorries using the Walrow,” he said.
“We need sensible weight restrictions in place so residents get the benefit of the bridge being re-open without lorries thundering past all day.”
The town council is to pursue the matter with Somerset County Council. It comes after a nine week closure of Highbridge’s Walrow Railway Bridge began on March 15th, with Network Rail currently carrying out much-needed strenghtening work amid safely fears.
