Expansion of M5 Sedgemoor Services could create 40 new jobs

-

Up to 40 new jobs could be created at Sedgemoor Services on the M5 motorway near Burnham-On-Sea if proposals for a major new expansion get the go-ahead from council planners.

Roadchef, the owner of the site on the M5 southbound at Brent Knoll, has this week submitted the expansion plans to Sedgemoor District Council.

The proposals include introducing 237 square metres of extra space for more restaurant and cafe facilities – making a total of 884 square metres in all.

Roadchef says the site currently employs 30 full time staff, which will rise to 65 if the plans win approval. The ten existing part-time roles will also rise to 15 – an overall increase of 40 jobs.

In addition to forming an extension to the seating area inside the main building, the proposals include creating a new plant compound, a new main entrance, and landscaping.

Sedgemoor District Council’s planning department is welcoming feedback on the plans until September 16th and a final decision on whether the scheme goes ahead is likely to be made later this year.
