A project to attract more coach visitors into Burnham-On-Sea has been praised by a national transport trade organisation this week.
Cathy Summers and John Burch from the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) visited the town to hear more about Burnham’s Project Coach initiative which has been set up to attract thousands more visitors into the town each year.
Ian Jefferies and Les Barber, who are leading the project, gave a presentation about the project during a special event held on Monday at The Princess Theatre attended by Mayor Martin Cox, Town Crier Alistair Murray and representatives from Burnham Chamber of Trade, Love Weston and local councils.
They heard about how free meals and offers are being offered by several traders as incentives to visiting coach drivers, how new coach travel route signs have been installed, and how publicity campaigns have recently been launched at travel shows and online. They also heard how information packs are being handed to coach visitors and how ‘meet and greeters’ are on hand when coaches arrive.
Cathy Summers, CPT Coaching Executive, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s great to see such a huge amount of effort being put into the project here in Burnham. It’s especially heartening to see local councils, traders and local groups pulling together and fully backing this.”
Burnham is hoping to get ‘coach friendly status’ in the future. The Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (CPT) is recognised by the Government as the voice of the bus, coach and light rail industries.
