Man arrested in Burnham as police carry out two drugs raids

-

One man has been arrested in Burnham-On-Sea after police carried out two drugs raids in our area within 24 hours.

Police with sniffer dogs swooped on a property in Church Street, Highbridge (as pictured here) at 7.40am on Friday.

“A man received a formal warning after being found in possession of cannabis,” police spokesman Dan Mountain told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Separately, a Misuse of Drugs Act warrant was executed in Ham Lane, Burnham-On-Sea, shortly after 9am on Thursday (May 22nd).

Officers found inside what were believed to be cannabis plants, cannabis in various stages of processing, as well as cultivating equipment. Police also found an air rifle and pistol in the premises.

A 36-year-old local man from the address was arrested on suspicion of possession of and producing a Class C controlled drug and taken to Bridgwater Police Station. He was later given police bail pending further enquiries.

PS Steve Lawrence said: “As part of National Tackling Drugs Week, we have been executing a number of warrants around Burnham and Highbridge with successful outcomes.”

“In this case we have seized suspected drugs which would have been bound for the streets of our towns otherwise. Warrants like this can only be carried out if we receive intelligence locally from residents and people who are seeing drug use and misuse on their streets.”

The warrants were carried out as part of National Tackling Drugs Week, aimed at hitting drug supply and use throughout the country.

Our photos show the drugs raid in Highbridge on Friday morning and, below, PS Lawrence, left, with the officers from Burnham who were involved in Thursday’s raid along with some of the items seized.
