Police issue appeal after racist abuse at Highbridge rail station
British Transport Police have today (Friday) appealed for the public’s help in identifying and tracing a man they would like to speak following an incident on board a train in Highbridge.
Officers have released this CCTV image of a man they believe will have information which can assist the investigation.
PC Zena Wilumsen, investigating officer, said the incident took place on board the 5.55pm Bristol Temple Meads to Taunton service on Friday 15th July 2011.
“The train guard working on the service, who is originally from Slovakia, encountered a male passenger at about 6.35pm who subjected her to racist abuse as he was getting off the train at Highbridge and Burnham rail station,” PC Wilumsen told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Although not physically harmed, the member of staff was understandably extremely shocked and upset by the man’s unprovoked outburst.”
“Behaviour such as this will not be tolerated by BTP and I would urge any who recognises the man in this photograph to come forward and contact police.”
“Members of rail staff have the right to go about their duties without having to suffer abuse of any description from passengers.”
