-

This was the scene on the M5 motorway between Burnham-On-Sea and Weston on Thursday evening (May 29th) after a two vehicle collision caused long tailbacks of up to six miles.

Emergency services from Burnham rushed to the northbound carriageway at 5.30pm following the accident between a Ford Mondeo and a Fiat motorhome during a heavy downfall of rain.

Two fire engines from Burnham, a rescue tender from Taunton and several fire engines from Weston were called to the scene after a person was trapped in the wreckage.

A fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “One person in the car was released by fire crews using hydraulic cutting equipment at 6.11pm.” The man was taken to Weston General Hospital for treatment.

Lanes two and three in both directions were closed for two and a half hours while police, ambulance crews and Highways Agency teams dealt with the incident.
