Young Burnham-On-Sea singers to perform in Royal Albert Hall

-

Young singers from Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge will join over 500 singers from across the county in representing Somerset at the last night of the Schools Prom at the Royal Albert Hall later this year.

For the first time in the Schools Prom 33 year history Somerset has been invited to take part in the event and will perform the grand finale of the three-day Schools Prom in November.

Pupils from local schools taking part will include several from Highbridge’s King Alfred School and Burnham’s St Joseph’s Primary School.

Somerset County Council’s music service, Somerset Music, has selected 400 school pupils to accompany 110 members of the Somerset County Youth Choir (SCYC) to perform.

The group will be performing a piece of music, titled The Calling, which was created especially for the event by local composer Sammy Hurden.

Penny Dunscombe, Somerset Music’s Vocal Development Manager, who is directing the project, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It is a great privilege for Somerset to have been invited to take a massed choir to perform at the Schools Prom. Somerset County Council is working closely with many schools across the County to make sure talented young singers are given the opportunity to take part in this event.”
