Burnham-On-Sea Lions Club celebrates 37th annual Charter Night

-

Members of Burnham-On-Sea’s Lions Club gathered to mark the group’s 37th anniversary of its foundation this week.

The club’s President Les Barber and his wife Sue welcomed 74 guests for the annual charter night at Highbridge’s Oaktree Arena.

Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Councillor Martin Cox and Lions District Governor Marianne Warren were among the special guests, including Pat and Beryl Scott, proprietors of Burnham’s Ritz Cinema and Ashley Edwards from the Rotary Club.

‘Rufus the lion’ made a surprise appearance to present donations instead of flowers to the Top Table Ladies. The ladies will be making a donation to their individual chosen charity.

A three-course meal was followed by speeches and toasts with the party being entertained by a live performance provided by international singer David Ford from Weston who performed a several well-known tribute numbers, ensuring the dance floor was full throughout.

Les told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a fantastic evening. My thanks go to everyone who came and made it such a successful evening. We work hard throughout the year helping others in our community, either by raising cash or providing services to those in need, and to celebrate the foundation of our club in such a positive way was great.”
