Burnham’s annual Seaside Fun Day falls victim to council cuts

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s long-running Seaside Fun Day has been axed by the district council, it was confirmed this week.

The event has been held on Burnham’s Esplanade at the height of the busy tourist season in early August for the last five years.

It attracted large crowds of families to Burnham with its sandcastle competitions, craft market, fair rides, punch and judy displays and musical attractions.

But Burnham-On-Sea.com learns the event – which was run by Sedgemoor District Council – has fallen victim to the authority’s budget cuts.

A council spokeswoman told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Wednesday (June 11th): “The council’s re-organisation of its staff earlier this year saw the post of Events Officer being abolished and unfortunately Burnham’s Seaside Fun Day – which she would have run – has had to be removed from the calendar.”
