Burnham-On-Sea optician store’s safety boost for local schoolchildren

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Specsavers store has given out 200 high visibility vests to two local schools during Road Safety Week.

The opticians in Burnham-On-Sea High Street has handed over the vests to East Huntspill and West Huntspill Schools this week in an effort to help ensure pupils are visibile when walking to and from their schools.

“The road safety message is important all year round but particularly during the winter when the days are shorter,” store director Rama Venkat told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We’re hoping the high-vis vests will ensure the youngsters can be seen clearly during the dark mornings and nights as well as whenever they go out on school trips.”

James Peate, headteacher at the schools, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re very grateful to Specsavers for this donation. As well as making the children more visible, hopefully the vests will also help give parents peace of mind.”

The theme of this year’s Road Safety Week is Make the Brake Pledge, which outlines six points that people can do to protect themselves and the people around them, while also reducing emissions and pollution from vehicles. The six are: Slow, Sober, Secure, Silent, Sharp and Sustainable.
