‘Britain’s most festive street’ lights up for Xmas in Burnham-On-Sea

-

A Burnham-On-Sea cul-de-sac whose stunning display of over 100,000 twinkling Christmas lights has been dubbed ‘Britain’s most festive street’ lit up for the start of the festive season on Thursday night (December 1st).

The Trinity Close residents have decorated their homes top to bottom with colourful lights, in addition to roofs, lawns and garden fences, and the display is now lit each night from 4.30pm-10pm until January 4th, helping charities.

The Trinity Close homes switched on their illuminations in freezing fog last night, accompanied by carols and a modern version of A Christmas Carol laid on by new Burnham-On-Sea performance group ‘Amongst Friends’.

The lights raised £11,688 for charity last year and this year’s collection will benefit PETAL: The Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust and Burnham’s own charity BARB Search & Rescue, which operates the town’s rescue hovercrafts and inshore rescue boats.

Resident Roger Flower told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s a superb display this year – it gets bigger and better every year.”

“Several of the residents have installed new extra lights this year – it’s great to see the display continuing to grow and helping two great local charities.”

This year’s display includes moving reindeer, illuminated trees and lanterns, and visitors can also see if they can find a toy train display.

The traditional displays have raised a huge total of more than £72,000 since the charity collections began ten years ago.

Visitors are being invited to make a donation in a number of collection boxes located around the homes.

Visitors are also being asked to be courteous to residents by parking sensibly and not blocking drives. The residents are working with Burnham Police to try and reduce congestion.
