Boat owners using the waters of Bridgwater Bay now have several new buoys to help them navigate their way past Burnham-On-Sea.
A formal Notice To Mariners has been issued by Burnham’s Harbour Master, Chris Spencer, alerting water users to the new navigation aids and relocation of existing buoys to make the channel safer.
The changes see a new buoy – to be called number 4 – introduced which will be green and conical-shaped and located at LAT 51° 12′.95 North, LONG 03° 01′.2 West. This buoy was initially put in place on a trial basis earlier in June but was found cast adrift after apparently being tampered with and it will therefore be replaced shortly.
A further new buoy – to be called number 3 – will also be green and conical-shaped and positioned at LAT 51° 14 North, LONG 03° 00′.9 West.
Among the other changes are the removal of the Stert Island beacon and a new location for the current number 2 buoy, which is being moved to LAT 51° 14′.5 North, LONG 03° 01′.2 West. Completing the changes, Burnham’s number one buoy is being moved to LAT 51° 14′.22 North, LONG 03° 04′.58 West.
