Villagers near Burnham-On-Sea say farewell to retiring vicar

-

Dozens of villagers near Burnham-On-Sea bid a fond farewell to their long-serving vicar on Sunday (September 18th) when he held his final church service before retirement.

Reverend Geoffrey Walsh, 65, who has been Rector of Huntspill and East Huntspill for 17 years, is moving away with his wife to retire in Axminster.

The popular vicar led his final service in St Peter & All Hallows Church in West Huntspill, which was attended by the Bishop of Taunton, the Rt Reverend Peter Maurice, and a large congregation.

After the service, a special lunch for almost 100 people was held in West Huntspill’s Balliol Hall, prepared by East Huntspill Church Hall’s Catering Committee.

Geoffrey, who is pictured with his wife Gloria and the Bishop following Sunday’s service, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’ve made many friends here over the past 17 years so are moving away with some sadness whilst also looking forward to a happy retirement.”

He is well known for organising West Huntspill’s annual summer classic car show, as pictured above, and supporting other fundraising events in the villages.
